Yesterday was Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday. He is considered one of the most beloved civil rights activists in history. He has made many famous speeches based on the belief that everyone should be treated the same. He also has a memorial in Washington D.C. that honors his legacy, and the struggle for freedom, equality, and justice. The pictures posted above are ones of the memorial that I took on a trip to Washington D.C. a few years ago.
This week, I want you to think about... What does it mean to "do the right thing?" Why do you think some people choose to do the easy thing as opposed to the right thing?

“The Right Thing” means you shouldn’t judge people by the way they look. Imagine someone saying, “You look ugly!” And that person feels sort of depressed and heart broken. But he’s not ugly. He’s unique. That also means equality, like different skin colors are the “same.” We are American for a reason. People shouldn’t be racist and disrespect other cultures. This is easy because it’s a better way to get to know the whole Earth. Martin Luther King Jr. is right.

I love how you gave multiple examples to support your thinking and perspective. Just so everyone knows, saying the word "white" wasn't racist. Racism is to say something BAD about someone's skin color. I also love how you were specific. Great post!

"Doing the right thing" can be looked at from many different perspectives. I have two views. The first one is to treat people, regardless of how different they are, equally. Lots of people make assumptions based on how people look. This is unfair, and is why "don't judge a book by it's cover" is a saying. In my opinion, judging people based on their skin color or religion doesn't make sense! If you really think about it, you will realize that we are all human beings.

To do the right thing is to help other people. Also to do the good things. Some people are lazy and they quickly just finish things or they are just selfish and only cares about them self.

I actually agree with you, Jaden. Most of our other classmates just said that doing the right thing is to not be racist, but I don't really agree with them. I mean, that's part of doing the right thing. I'm not saying that being racist is good, it's bad. I just think that there's more to it than that. I think people just said doing the right thing means not being racist because of Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday. Doing the right thing is also what you said, Jaden. Being kind.

To me "Doing the right thing'' is to make a positive impact on a people or multiple people. MLK did exactly what I just said. He mase a HUGE impact on ending segregation. That is what I think "doing the right thing is"

To “ do the right thing” means to make sure that those that are “different” are proud of the way they look. Furthermore, they are not different-they are special. You can’ t do anything about it. The number one rule of “doing the right thing” is to NEVER shame anybody because of their races. It hurts everyone. Martin Luther King Jr. went out of his way to stop the segregation. He wanted equality. He did the right thing and so can you.

I think that "do the right thing" means don't judge people by how they look or how they talk that is just super rude. You should never do that to anyone they would feel very hurt and would never talk to you. That is the opposite of what Martin Luther King Jr. wanted. He wanted to bring everyone together and make peace if you say something about someone that is not bringing everyone together is the exact opposite.

I think people choose the easy way out because they don't want to do it or they are to lazy. They might also take the easy way out because they just want it to be finished and do something else.

Doing the right thing s different from different perspective and also really touchy. But some things are definitely right or wrong. Killing ,thievery ,racism ,and saying the rams will win is bad. Being kind, fairness, inclusion, and speaking up is amazing. The rest depends on beliefs and ones state of mind. I think the reason why people choose easy is because of procrastination fear and the mindset that it won't matter. All of us do it (some more than others) but it is something we all need to stop doing. "Believe in something even if it means sacrificing everything."

What it means to do the right thing is that you do something that might improve and impact the greater good around you. This example uses Martin Luther King Jr. He wanted to end segregation for the greater good of Black people. To have the same rights over white people. He did something to impact people for the better.

Doing the right thing can have many different answers based on your perspective. To me, doing the right thing means to treat everyone the same. What I mean by this is to not segragate anybody because of their beliefs, race, etc. Also doing the right thing means to help others when needed. Also, I have actually been to the MLK monument.

"Do the right thing" has many different prescriptive, I think that "doing the right thing" means to believe in something even there might be a great expense after word. Also it could mean that people who were once not aloud to be even friends can come together. I think this because Martin Luther king Junior or M.L.K. Jr. for short was about bring people of different races come together and unite.

The right thing to do can be differ from different perspectives. For me the right thing is speaking out against something that you think is wrong or unfair to you or others. For example, MLK boycotted segregation and made speeches about how no matter what color your skin is or what race you are, you should still be treated like everyone else.

"Doing the right thing" can be viewed differently depending on the person. It could be just helping others, or it could mean that you do the thing that simply isn't wrong. For me, I guess it means doing the good thing that no one else has done, and making the good guys happy. 'But,' you may ask, 'who ARE the good guys?'. This is a hard question. Like doing the right thing, it has different perspectives on the meaning. The good guys could be the government, the people who are making the laws, OR it could be the people who are risking their lives to do a simple act of kindness, like sacrificing your life for another human being, or even BREAKING the laws. People who break the laws must have a motivation to do so. I think the good guys and bad guys differ from it. For example, the bad guys simply break the law out of joy, because it's "fun" for them. The good guys, however, could be doing so out of a belief, or it could be for someone they love, and they don't enjoy breaking the law. Sure, they WANT the law to be changed, but they don't want to go to prison. They break the law anyway, because of their motivation. The bad guys who are in jail just sulk and cry, while the good guys don't. They don't because they know that because they are in jail, that means they have accomplished something. I mean, if the police officer didn't send you to jail, no one would see your act. Today's social media is highly sophisticated, and ever single piece of gossip spreads quickly. They have accomplished the act of spreading the word.

I think doing the right thing means forgiving people for their mistakes and not getting super mad at them and start yelling. Some people might choose to do the easy thing over the right thing because they don't care about that person or are too lazy to do the thing that's right because it might just take a little more time but still don't do it.

I think that to do the right thing is to do the good thing instead of the bad for example say there is a bad group of kids at school and instead of joining them you told a teacher what they were doing. Doing the good thing could also be a good deed, for example helping an old lady across the street that’s a good thing. This what a good thing means to me.

The meaning of "do the right thing” is to do well and make a difference. Some people take the easy route instead of making a difference the hard way like how Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. did to make a difference.

The phrase “do the right thing” means to me that you should not be bullying others of race or looks. Also, don’t judge a person on the outside because you don’t know how they act, and they could be nice. This was a real-life example coming from me. When I was 6 years old in summer camp there was this girl name Jessica and she thought I was a know it all because of my skin color and my race because I’m Asian. People kept saying “No one what’s to be friends with you!!!” I thought this was unfair to say something mean to me because of my skin color and race. Another definition that I think that supports this quote is you should speak up for yourself when you see something that is unfair to you or others. For example, Dr. King boycotted with people of his background and other adults because he thought that it was unfair that African Americans where treated this way and he wanted a say in this so he could can the law about African Americans. Another definition that would support this quote is lying to people. For example, some people in our class like to lie about their WEALTH, SAYING THAT THEY HAVE PRICEY PRODUCTS THEY BOUGHT (will not say the people that do). This is not a good thing to do. If you tell lies to your friends like “I have a arcade at home and a giant swimming pool and all the skins in fornite!!”, that lie that you told will hang on to you forever and when your friends find out about this, they might not trust a single word that you say anymore. You will feel lonely and left out because of telling so many lies. If you lie a lot and people already know that what you are saying is not true, people will call you a big fat liar. You don’t want that. If you lie to your parents that is even worse. The most common lie to your parents is your grades. You should not lie to your parents because first they will lose your trust for the rest of your life intill you gain it back. Second you live with them so it would be really weird for your parents to say that I can’t trust you anymore. You will not be able to get chances, like hanging out with your friends afterschool outside. Your parents might come up with a crazy idea that you are taking drugs or smoking so they might not let you do what you want to do. Not saying you should be doing those bad things. People choose to do the easy thing than do the right thing because it makes their task much easier to finish. But you might get caught doing it. It is much better to do it the right way even thought it is hard to do and you won’t get caught, and you might get better results.

Do the right thing means to help/do something to help the world somehow and a lot of people do the easy thing which is to do nothing or doing something bad but you should do the right thing and not be lazy about it.Some examples of doing the right thing is donating money to places who need it, recycling and not littering ( which no one does) and not destroying the world by polluting and tearing down trees. Doing the right thing can mean different things to different people.

“To do the right thing” means to do something that is fair and equal. After all we are all human. We should be treated equally and with respect. We all have feelings and to see ones feelings hurt can make you very sad. It’s the right thing to speak to them or make them feel better. Martin Luther King jr was a man of equality and human rights. He would speak before is race. He was a very special guy. And he should be honored. :)
